"Close The Door On Yesterday"

NEWS AND NOTES
1. Lil' Jimmie Gets Busy
One of the most important southern soul singles to emerge in 2014, Lil' Jimmie's "She Was Twerking" never made it to the majority of deejays across the chitlin' circuit and was never released for sale.
The fast jam with the staccato guitar hook and obsessively simple vocal first charted on Daddy B. Nice's Southern Soul Singles Review at
#3 in June '14, and as the months went by listeners went bonkers for it like Peter Griffin doing
"The Bird Is The Word" for an entire "Family Guy" episode.
Daddy B. Nice's Mailbag was inundated with requests for where to buy or download the song, to no avail. By year's end, the jam had received Daddy B. Nice's nod as....
Best Club (Fast/Dance/Jam) Song of 2014: "She Was Twerkin'" by Lil' Jimmie
Meanwhile, Lil' Jimmie and his would-be hit remained as obscure and mystifying as a tick in an Ozarks' wool blanket.
Well, fans and curiosity-seekers can finally rejoice. The new song by the Texas phenomenon previously known among southern soul aficionados for the underground classic
"Close The Door On Yesterday" is slated for arrival March 31st, and Lil' Jimmie is cranking up a tour. That Lady DJ Productions along with TNT Entertainment is representing Lil' Jimmie. Here are the details from That Lady's Melody Hudson:
"Hello Daddy B. Nice,

Daddy B. Nice replies:
That's the number-one-requested song by my audience over the past summer. It's not for sale, but be patient. Lil' Jimmie appears to be adding new singles, See:

8. "Next Time (I Fall In Love)"------Lil' Jimmie
I've received many letters from fans asking where they can buy Lil' Jimmie's "She Was Twerkin'," previously touted on Daddy B. Nice's Singles Review (#3/June/'14), and the answer is still nowhere--on the Web, at any rate. "Next Time" is the follow-up single, utilizing the same staccato guitar style and truly wonderful, female background singing. In his "cool" obscurity and his tenacious old-school style, Lil' Jimmie reminds me of the legendary Eddie Holloway.
And your Daddy B. Nice heard yet another song that sounded like Lil' Jimmie the other day: "You Think You Got It Going On."
All this activity bodes well for a long-play collection by Lil' Jimmie in the near future. Meanwhile, he's missed a lot of sales by not putting a "She Was Twerkin'" single out.

3. “She Was Twerkin’”----Lil' Jimmie
Lil' Jimmie (Jimmie Forbish, Jr. of Beaumont, Texas) has a loyal underground following for his obscure southern soul classic, "Moving On (I'll close the door on yesterday").
“She Was Twerkin’,” less melodic than "Moving On" but no less fascinating for its tasty, no-quit-in-it rhythm guitar riff, is Lil' Jimmie's best new song in years.

"LOOKING FOR SONGS" LETTERS (March, 2014)

Daddy B. Nice,
Hi. Could you please tell me who sings the song "Moving On" (I think that's the title). The hook is something like I've closed the door on yesterday I'm moving on, moving moving on to tomorrow.
Thank you!
Anna
Daddy B. Nice replies:
Hi, Anna,
That's one of those great underground records--underground even for Southern Soul, which in itself is underground. The song is called "Moving On," as you surmised, and it's by a singer called
Lil' Jimmie (Jimmie Forbish, Jr. of Beaumont, Texas).
The "one-hit-wonder" record is long out of print, but it's by far his best.
You can find his 2007 CD,
I'm Not Going Nowhere, on Amazon, but unfortunately it doesn't reprise "Moving On."
I get asked about this record annually, which is one of the reasons I consider it a "classic."
